Danish filmmaker: director plays more important role than idea in short films

Filmmaker and chairman of Danish National School, Arneh Brou who ran an educational workshop named “filmmaker’s personal language” during Tehran Short Film Festival, said: an idea originates from open thoughts and feelings of an artist. Therefore, one could say a good idea is intertwined with an artist’s great feeling.

The Danish filmmaker emphasized on the importance of holding several seminars on how to develp an idea and said “Many decisions are made through a good idea and and many seminars are hosted on the quality of a good idea; still there are a lot of rather weak movies.”

“I believe in film industry and especially in short films we should find good artists as well as their hidden talents. This would result in a good idea”, he added.

Brou said TV channels can encourage people to watch short films. “When we analyze the potentials of internet social networks, we understand the networks can play an outstanding role in attracting audiences”, he also said.

The director of the 3rd gate said: the technology of such media is so advanced these days that let us make movies based on their potentials.

The instructor said short film is the turning point for young filmmakers. “To me, short films are a collection of invitations that push movie makers toward making feature films. Considering the low budget and short time you spend on short films, they are very popular among young movie makers”, he said.

On the status of short film festivals in Iran, Brou said “several festivals are held in Iran each year and they are popular among the lovers of cinema. We might call these festivals podiums to show filmmakers’ ideas and thoughts. So they are important”.

“But to say how much these festivals are popular, we need statistical evidence via polls. Because a festival can make someone satisfied and another one dissatisfied” he said.
